Brian's View

This is Brian's opportunity to introduce the world to Brian Jamel Dixon's shared history with Byron Jamarr Dixon.

In a twist of fate...maybe...Byron was born 9 minutes before me.  I didn't mind being the baby...the hardest part was the sharing.  We shared initials, we shared clothes, we shared identity for the longest time...until we agreed to separate and build our own lives.  Fortunately, we've always been deeper than friends, never really enemies, and always on the lookout for the other.

I'm still impressed to this day how independent we were as twins. I think it helped that he was 3 inches taller than me.  And we gave each other space without losing our connection.

Who were "the Twins?"

We were separable.  We didn't read each other's minds.  And we were frank and honest about, well, everything.
This was our greatest superpower:  finding a rhythm where we never had to put on airs.  Byron was easy to talk to...even if his advice wasn't asked for. :D

What happened?

We don't fully know
But here's my best guess...

I don't know how to play basketball.  In fact, I'm terrible at it.  Byron did teach me how to stand and shoot, so that's a win.  But the mechanism of "dribbling" the ball is foreign to me and he never gave me a hard time about it.

In fact, his gift was to pick up sports as easily as I could pick up a concept in math or science:  our gifts were just really different.

We were never "competitors" in the common understanding.  Just liked to compete.

Byron and Brian Race.MOV

This foot race was us at 40.  The year was 2020 and COVID was reshaping our nation.  We celebrated with a big blow out birthday bash back in Lufkin.

For kicks and giggles, we decided to do a few things:  handstands, racing, and cards.  I was always just  slightly faster than Byron.

But he was the athletic superstar of our dyad.
